How SMP is paid
Two phases, one plan.
Statutory Maternity Pay can be paid for up to 39 weeks. The first six weeks are 90% of average weekly earnings before tax. For the next 33 weeks, the weekly amount is the lower of £194.32 or 90% of those earnings.
The calculator checks the 2026/27 £129 weekly earnings threshold only. Eligibility also depends on employment history and notice requirements, which this tool cannot assess. A full 52-week maternity leave would usually have 13 weeks without SMP.
The output is gross SMP. Your employer pays it through payroll and deducts Income Tax and National Insurance where due. Employer-enhanced maternity pay and other benefits are not included.
